Mobile screening units
Mobile Screening Units Are Appointments on the Go!
Did you know that the BC Cancer Agency has mobile screening mammography units that visit over 150 rural communities throughout BC, as part of the Screening Mammography Program (SMP) of BC? Giving women ages 40 to 79 easy access to screening mammograms – wherever they live in the province – is a priority for the SMP.
Mobile Doesn’t Mean on Wheels
Keep in mind that a mobile unit doesn’t mean having a mammogram in a van. The equipment is brought in by van, but the temporary clinics are set up in health centres and community centres, sometimes even in a private location at a local mall.
Mobile Means the Same
Whether you visit a permanent clinic or temporary one, all are equally accredited and will provide you with high-quality care. You also will find relaxed, friendly staff who are happy to answer all your questions and make your appointment comfortable and pleasant.
Make an Appointment in Your Area
Units are generally set up in rural communities twice every year, so it’s important to know when the mobile unit will be in your area. The regions the mobile units travel to cover:
- Interior
- Kootenay
- Okanagan
- Vancouver Island
- Queen Charlotte Islands
- Sea-to-Sky Corridor
- Northern BC
- Lower Mainland
To find a centre or mobile screening unit near you, visit www.smpbc.ca and select “Locations” on the left side of the screen.
