Eleven years ago I went in search of my birth mother, who I subsequently found out died at 33 from breast cancer. I learned my biological aunt and grandmother both had breast cancer as well. Due to this family history, I’ve been getting mammograms since I was 23. At my regular mammogram and ultrasound in November 2007, a very small abnormality showed up; it’s not even palpable. I’m going back for another mammo and ultrasound soon, where they’ll measure it for growth. I’m remaining cautiously optimistic.
