I found out I had cancer at 46 when I requested a mammogram – breast cancer ran in my family, and I wanted to be careful. A lumpectomy and radiation took care of it. Ten years later, in 2000, a lump was found in a routine breast examine. Another lumpectomy and more radiation. I’ve since found out I carry the breast cancer gene and decided on a double mastectomy. It may not be the route everyone chooses, but now I can go about my life with no further worries that breast cancer will invite itself into my life for a third go around.
